At Thomson Brothers we are passionate about breathing new life into tired spaces. This recent refurbishment of an iconic yet tired flat was a project brimming with potential. With inventive planning and skilled craftsmanship, the apartment was transformed into a modern and inviting living space.  

We believe that every aspect of a home should not only be visually appealing, but also comfortable. This is evident in the choice of cork flooring throughout the apartment. Cork not only adds a touch of warmth and elegance but also provides a comfortable underfoot feel. It’s an eco-friendly choice, as cork is a renewable resource.

In the master bedroom, we made and installed a bespoke, reeded walnut headboard. Crafted with precision and attention to detail, it is not just a functional component of the bed, but also a striking piece of art in the room. The rich, dark tones of the walnut add depth and character to the space, resulting in an atmosphere of luxury and serenity.

The industrial charm of the kitchen space was enhanced by exposing and meticulously cleaning the original concrete wall. The contrast between the new, smooth, modern bespoke kitchen cabinets and the rugged concrete wall is a well-blended combination. The stainless steel worktop offers practicality with its exceptional durability and resistance to staining. The addition of the quartz worktop introduces an element of sophistication. By combining these two components we have created a practical and visually appealing environment for cooking and entertaining.

By updating the main bathroom with puzzle-patterned tiles that mirror the oval shapes prevalent throughout the Barbican Estate, a captivating, modern, and artistic touch is brought to the room. It is now a vibrant and contemporary space which makes a bold and distinctive design statement.

The transformation of this tower apartment has breathed new life into its historic features, while seamlessly integrating our contemporary design elements. It has resulted in a unique and revitalised home that pays homage to its past, while embracing the demands of the present.
