Nestled within the iconic Barbican Estate, a stunning vaulted ceiling penthouse underwent a remarkable transformation that seamlessly merged modern luxury with the timeless allure of Barbican architecture.

This comprehensive refurbishment by Thomson Brothers, not only revitalised the living space, but also introduced a third floor in the form of a remarkable mezzanine, reached by ascending a beautiful bespoke walnut staircase with a sleek glass balustrade. This new focal point of the apartment was strategically designed to maximise space without compromising aesthetics. Bespoke storage beneath the new staircase ingeniously makes the most of the available space, effortlessly integrating functionality with a tailored design that adds practicality and aesthetic appeal to the area.

The lower and upper floors feature sleek and versatile grey Marmoleum, providing a contemporary and cohesive foundation with a muted elegance that integrates well with various original and new design elements. The middle floor was expertly laid with a beautiful oak parquet herringbone, making the space both timeless and sophisticated.
The kitchen transformation, in the renowned Thomson Brothers’ style, exudes a modern elegance, perfectly complementing the surrounding architectural elements. The kitchen features a stunning green ceramic floor, which echoes the lush greenery outside to create a harmonious connection with nature.

The refurbishment of the shower room, with Thomson Brothers’ meticulous attention to detail, preserved the essence of the Barbican’s design while incorporating modern fixtures and finishes. The result is a seamless blend of past and present.
A striking element of this refurbishment is the client’s bold choice of a vibrant yellow for the walls surrounding the original spiral staircase, with its solid mahogany treads. The carefully selected colour not only reflects the client’s personality, but also creates a dynamic atmosphere that enhances the overall living experience within this revitalised and richly architectural Barbican penthouse.
